SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

This special committee was convened to examine an additional legacy project to celebrate our Centennial. Early on, the concept of a scholarship program was viewed positively. Their mandate was to determine the feasibility of such a program, and how best to implement, with the same funding as our other major Centennial projects.

CENTENNIAL PROJECT – THE ROTARY CLUB OF TORONTO LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP

To commemorate our 100th birthday, RCT will launch its own unique and outstanding scholarship opportunity for six disadvantaged youth in Toronto. The scholarship focuses on youth with scholastic ability but who experience financial and life disadvantages. All tuition will be paid by the RCT in order to obtain a university or college degree. The scholarship project is a five-year pilot, with the RCT Charitable Foundation reassessing its value and financial investment after the five years.

The six youth must have an interest and ability to commit to and attend occasional Rotary luncheons and events. The youth can also act as informal ambassadors for RCT and will have an interest and/or need to be mentored by a Rotarian. There will be opportunities for RCT members to Mentor a Scholarship recipient and/or join the Scholarship committee.

Our RCT scholarships are unique because the level of support is unprecedented in the cornucopia of existing scholarships. It is also unique because of the Partnership with the Argonauts Football Club. The advantages of the partnership between RCT and Argos are many; outreach, publicity, promotion, joint selection committee and more.

Our $100K project covers all tuition and textbook costs for the selected individuals through their entire three- or four-year college or university program.
