Brett Hendrie is the Executive Director of Hot Docs, a Toronto-based charity committed to showcasing and celebrating excellence in documentaries, and to creating opportunities for documentary filmmakers.
Since joining the Toronto-based organization in 2001, Brett has helped to develop the annual Hot Docs festival as a calendar event for local audiences and industry professionals. Celebrating its 27th anniversary in 2020, Hot Docs attracts over 230,000 public attendees and over 2000 documentary filmmakers, producers, broadcasters and buyers. Each year, Hot Docs’ Docs for Schools program brings free documentary screenings to over 120,000 students across Ontario. Since 2012, Hot Docs has programmed and operated the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, a century-old landmark cinema in downtown Toronto and the world’s first cinema dedicated to showcasing independent documentaries.   
 
Brett holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema Studies from the University of Toronto, has previously worked for the Toronto International Film Festival and major Canadian banks and brokerages. Brett has sat on numerous jury and selection committees for international film festivals and documentary competitions.
