Biography

Maurice Switzer, Bnesi, is a citizen of the Mississaugas of Alderville First Nation, where his grandfather Moses Muskrat Marsden was Chief in the early 1900s.

He currently serves as chair of Nipissing University's Indigenous Council on Education and president of the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre.  A former Ontario Human Rights Commissioner, he is a member of the commission's Reconciliation Advisory working group.

At various times, Maurice has been communications director for the Assembly of First Nations and the Union of Ontario Indians, adjunct professor of Indigenous Studies at the University of Sudbury, publisher of the Winnipeg Free Press, and member of the Timmins and Sudbury Rotary clubs.
