Brian G. Clark –

A native of Toronto, Brian Clark earned both his Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering (1970), and a Masters degree in Business Administration (1971) at the University of Toronto.  Brian was hired in Toronto in 1973 as the tenth employee of Euro Brokers, an interdealer brokerage firm serving international financial institutions in the wholesale capital markets.

In 1974, Euro Brokers relocated its headquarters from Toronto to New York City’s World Trade Center and, over the next two and a half decades, the firm grew to a roster of more than 650 employees in seven offices around the world.

On September 11, 2001, Brian Clark was on the eighty‑fourth floor of the World Trade Centre’s South Tower when the second hijacked airplane slammed into the building six floors below him.  Brian is one of only four individuals who survived from floors above the point of impact.  During his descent he heard cries of help from within the eighty‑first floor and successfully rescued a stranger who was trapped by debris.

Sixty‑one of Brian’s co‑workers were killed that day.  For the next five years, until his retirement in August 2006, Brian served as President of ‘The Euro Brokers Relief Fund,’ a public charity created to financially support the families of his company’s sixty‑one victims.

In 2004, Brian was recipient of the annual ‘Norman Vincent Peale Award For Positive Thinking’ and he has been nominated to receive Canada’s “Medal of Bravery.”  His 9/11 story has been recorded in multiple documentaries and Brian has been interviewed on dozens of shows including Peter Mansbridge’s “One On One.”  Mr. Mansbridge selected his interview with Brian as one of his favorites to be included in Mansbridge’s book of the same name.

Brian currently serves as Treasurer and is on the Board of Trustees at the New Brunswick (New Jersey) Theological Seminary.  In addition he is on the Board of Governors of Opportunity International, a global enterprise that provides micro‑finance loans to the poorest of the poor in twenty‑five developing countries.

Brian and his wife Dianne live in Mahwah, New Jersey where they raised four children and now enjoy nine grandchildren.
